About The Program
Food and food security are important issues for Glebe Youth Service and for the community. During Covid on Friday and Saturday night cooked meals were delivered to the homes of young people and families who would usually attend After Dark. Food is provided at each GYS activity and is an important part of After Dark on Friday and Saturday nights. With the rising cost of food, GYS decided in 2023 to start a Food Circle and provide food once a week to a small number of families. With funding from the City of Sydney, the Food Circle was expanded and for the last two years, has been supplying about 86 families a week with fruit and vegetables, bread, pasta, rice, eggs and sometimes meat. This funding ended in June 2026, and the Food Circle has continued to run due to an anonymous donation and some ongoing funding from the City of Sydney.
