Emily Whitehouse

Emily stimg_5526arted her career as a teacher in London and then moved into the Not-For-Profit sector where she worked on a variety of educational programs that linked schools and colleges with the London business community. The programs focused on raising the achievements and aspirations of young people, developing their motivation and skills for the world of work and increasing their ability to choose and achieve positive career, life and learning goals. In 2011 she completed a Master’s degree in Voluntary Sector Management, with a specialism in International NGO management. In 2012 she joined the PACE (Professional and Community Engagement) program at Macquarie University. PACE provides opportunities for students to apply classroom learning in practice and develop valuable career skills while working with, and making a contribution to, partner organisations. Her role involves Strategy development and implementation, risk management and overseeing quality assurance for business processes and operational support systems.

2016-04-01 17.03.38Victoria spent 25 years working in corporate executive administration, until her passion for social justice and community wellbeing led to a change some years ago to community mental health services, including current role as facilitator with NSW peak body Mental Health Coordinating Council (MHCC), delivering professional development courses in mental health recovery oriented practice for community service workers across NSW. Victoria has lived in the inner west area for over 20 years, the last 8 years being in the Glebe area. As a resident of the Glebe estate she takes a keen interest in the local community, contributing voluntary work by catering for the GYS After Dark program regularly, alongside the management committee role as secretary. Victoria also has a range of original, handmade crochet earrings, with all sales donated to GYS.

Julian Laurens

Julian Laurens 2Julian has extensive experience in management, administration and social justice projects and policy. He is keenly interested in access to education and justice for young people, and developing strategies that assist young people to participate in and contribute to the development of the social and cultural lives of the community. Julian has a particular interest in the experiences and rights of young people with disability. Most recently Julian has worked at the UNSW Faculty of Law conducting research on legal education as well as a tutor for first year and Indigenous law students, and interned with the Australian Human Rights Commission. Julian has a BA and LLB (Hons) from UNSW. In 2007 Julian completed the practical training for his Certificate IV in Youth Work (Distinction) at Glebe Youth Service. He is a mad collector and lover of Soul, Jazz, Funk and Reggae music.
